Charlie LOVES his Rhodiola

Through the years Charlie has tried many different types of supplements. We’re always trying new things. Early this year we added to his vitamin regimen an herbal stress adaptogen called rhodiola. It’s considered to be one of the most resilient of all the known adaptogens. Charlie saw immediate results and LOVES this product! Rhodiola enhances concentration by stimulating neurotransmitter production. It also increases your endurance, puts you in a better mood, supports your immune system, and many many more benefits. We have a rule in this house that whenever we open the last bottle of any supplements, it is written on a list so I can re-order more. I have yet to get Charlie to comply with this rule until Rhodiola came along. Not only does he write it down on our re-order list when he opens the last bottle but he writes me a note and puts it on my computer. And finally he will ask me numerous times, “Did you get my note? B/c their are only 30 caps in each bottle. If you don’t order today I’ll run out!” Isn’t that crazy??? He loves this stuff! He says it makes his thinking sharper, his reflexes quicker, and it helps him take notes faster.

There is just one slight problem. Because it’s an herb, you need to cycle off of it. He takes it 5 days on (Mon-Fri) and 2 days off (Sat & Sun). Unfortunately in 2 months the power of rhodiola starts to wear off. I could increase his dosage but I’m comfortable with him at 200mg a day. I do not want to go higher. If I did that then eventually his body would get accustomed to that and we would need a higher dosage and so on. So after 2 months we take 1 month off. Right now we are in off month with Rhodiola. And Charlie is bugging the crap out of me. Since he started this new school (Collegiate High School on our college campus- he’ll graduate with his associate degree along with his high school diploma), he keeps telling me how he doesn’t think it’s a good idea to take this month off since his classes this year are extremely hard. I mean the drama that is coming from this child, I tell you! I told him we are doing our EEG Biofeedback treatments (brain mapping), so I really need to see how his treatments are truly affecting him minus the rhodiola. Plus we found what works for best for Charlie when taking this herb. I have a bottle in our room that my husband and I take on stressful or hectic days. Charlie still continues to try to get me to come off our stash! I was going to keep him off this product until we were done with our EEG treatments (5-6 months) but Charlie isn’t having any of this! So I guess after this month is over, I will start him back on this herb.

Here is the product we use:

100mg  http://www.vitacost.com/New-Chapter-Rhodiola-Force-100

300mg http://www.vitacost.com/New-Chapter-Rhodiola-force-300-mg 300mg are for special occasions such as finals.

P.S Remember this stuff is great but based off my personal experience and testimonies of family and friends, it will lose it’s effectiveness. How long? I guess it really depends on you. We didn’t start taking Rhodiola to help with Charlie’s focus or concentration. We have mastered those obstacles years ago. Another mom from my website brought this product to my attention after recieving wonderful results from her son. I thought we’d try it just to see what would happen. Little did we know this would become Charlie’s favorite supplement!

Charlie Ends The Year With All A’s
I haven’t gotten the official report card in the mail yet but when I went on line to check his grades this is what was posted. Maybe his grades will be higher when I receive his report card……I hope away.  Many ADD/ADHD parents tell me that I’m so lucky since Charlie is very smart. First of all, the majority of ADD/ADHD are extremely intelligent! They just happen to not care about grades or school. They want to engage in activities that offer quick dopamine fixes. Other ADD/ADHD are not able to focus because they’re body and brain chemistry are completely out of whack. Here are a few things that help us to help Charlie stay focus:1. We stay on top of his supplement and diet…..ALWAYS!

2. We go on line to check Charlie’s grades every Friday. If his grades do not reflect his potential, well then he loses time doing what he wants to do. When he disagrees with his punishment he has to write an essay about what he could have done differently to have gotten a better grade or in most cases not to have received a 0 for not turning in homework, etc. And when Charlie rages out in full protest, he has to write an essay and do yard work.

3. When Charlie’s grades are good for that week, he gets money and more time to do what he loves doing. But starting on Sunday evening after dinner he has to focus on school. If he doesn’t have school work then his daddy gives him exercises for personal development (which always involves reading and writing). Because of this Charlie always find something to work on for school. Sometimes he will just work ahead or start studying for a quiz that he may have on Wednesday or something.

It sounds so simple but you would be surprise how many times this child will push or test us. Its the same regime every week, Charlie knows exactly what he has to do to get what he wants, and that fricking child of ours will demand an explanation when he loses his free time over not turning in school work. He’ll tell us how he’s the only kids that has to write stupid essays and how none of his friends have to do this or how ALL of his friends have B’s and C’s and that their parents are happy that their kids are at least passing their classes. This is usually the time I begin to unravel and start yelling BUT fortunately for me my husband steps in and will show no reaction to Charlie’s tantrum. Eventually Charlie knows he can not win against my husband because it’s almost impossible to piss off his dad. Chuck will ask Charlie questions: “Well if you absolutely didn’t have time to do your school work then that means you did have time to do it? There is an opposite to everything in this world. There’s an up and down, front and back, cold and hot, etc. The time you have is the time you make. Where could you have made more time to get this work done, etc….” He will keep asking questions that makes Charlie think…..which he absolutely HATES. Charlie doesn’t even want to fight anymore. It’s funny too because I always thought all this stuff just went in one ear and out the other. But sometimes I will over hear Charlie’s conversation on his cell phone and I’ll be dang if he’s not repeating advise we give him to his girlfriend or friends. Too funny….now if only we could get him to live by it. I’m sure it will come……probably more likely to happen after college.

FYI, that was not always the case especially in our early years on this journey. We would get sooooo mad at him, we would scream in that lower devil tone where our entire neighborhood could hear. So I guess you can say WE ALL have come a really long way with our personal development. If there is a tip I could pass to other parents, BE CONSISTENT. Remember ADD/ADHD run about 3 years behind in maturity than other kids their age. They will eventually get the lesson…..they just seem to like to learn or do things the hard way.

Pretty awesome grades huh? I’m soo proud! Just know it wasn’t always this way. There was a time when we use to sit up all night in our kitchen trying to keep Charlie focus so we could help him with his homework. Nothing was worse than being completely exhausted from a days work and here you are up till 10pm trying to help your child with homework that he’s not even half way through yet and when you ask him, “Do you understand what I just explained?”……he’s fricking daydreaming.

One of the most important things we have learned from going to self development seminars and reading personal development books, is that LUCK is when opportunity and preparation meet.

P.S Sorry I haven’t been on top of these blogs. With Charlie getting out of school, I have some how been assigned designated driver. So I been spending my days and evenings taking Charlie and his friends every where. I literally wake up and go to sleep to a whole house of boys. Constantly cleaning up after them and then the time it takes to feed them too. Gessh, I tell you!…..But honestly I wouldn’t have it any other way :).

Charlie’s Results From Spring Break

We went ahead and started Charlie back on Biometics yesterday. I was going to wait to start him back this Monday morning but my husband and I decided he didn’t need to go any longer without them. Everything on his cleanse went smooth last week. No detox and he still had plenty of energy. Charlie said he didn’t even notice a difference being off of his Biometics AM drink after his first day last Sunday. However, last Tuesday we noticed that mult-tasking for Charlie was becoming more difficult than usual. We never mention any of this to him because we didn’t want to influence him with “The power of persuasion.” Instead Chuck and I just logged down his results in our journal. Thursday I would tell Charlie to take something out to the trash, etc… I would have to tell him like 20 times to his face. Finally I started yelling at him. He would say, “Okay, all you had to do is just tell me!” So I repeated myself……again to him. About an hour later I come back into the kitchen and the trash is still fricking sitting there. Now I’m like livid! I scream for Charlie to come into the kitchen. He looks at the trash and he’s like I could of swore I took that out. Starting form Thursday to Saturday he was like this. On Saturday, he was a bit irritable. Not bad but his attitude was lazy and a bit whiny. So Sunday morning my husband and I were like forget starting him back on the supplements Monday, he starts back on them today! Charlie has been on Biometics for almost 3 years. This is the first time we have ever taken him off his AM drink. Wow just imagine had we not given him his Cal/Mag during spring week, he would have been way too hyper to tolerate. This morning I asked Charlie if he noticed any difference being off of his AM drink last week and now being back on it and you know what he says to me??? He says, “Not really. I had plenty of energy during the week and I still felt good too.” I said well what about your focus? He said, “I think I felt a little bit more focus yesterday and today.” I beg to differ! I wanted to scream but instead I calmly pointed out to him all the tasks I had asked him a million times to do all week. Finally he was like, “Yeah come to think about it, it wasn’t like I had problems focusing, I just thought I had done things when I didn’t.” I said like, “Forgetting to turn off the stove, or putting up the groceries, or forgetting your skim board at the beach…twice?????” He thinks because he still felt an overall well being last week that it didn’t affect his focus or memory in any way. I guess he relates his lack of focus to feeling bad and not being healthy like he felt as the beginning of this journey before we started down the natural remedy path.

P.S Can’t say I feel any different from being on “Cell Food” this week. I probably will not re-order this product again. I have been taking this product for a week now so I can’t really give a full honest testimony. Easy product to take and is pretty much tasteless.  I’m not saying it’s not beneficial but I feel like I accomplish the same results with Wheat grass….which BTW, I miss not being on wheat grass this week! Perhaps this is a product that we could take with us on vacation because unlike wheat grass, it can be taken with or without food, it’s easy to pack, and it’s not messy to mix up daily.

Charlie Out For Spring Break

Charlie’s out for Spring break, so we are all going to do a Candida cleanse together and also clean out our body’s filters (liver, lungs, kidneys, colon, skin) as well. We do them quite often because we’re not perfect and we do not always eat properly. Doing quarterly cleanses helps us maintain balance in our body and brain chemistry. After a cleanse we are so good for the first month. But it doesn’t take long before we get seduced by the sweet or processed foods. It is such a battle trying to stay on the path of living organic foods. But at least we never eat fast food! It’s the going out to eat that get us. Right before we begin a cleanse, we all gorge on bad food for about 3-4 days. I know that sounds bad but honestly I think we deserve it because we do eat about 80% organic, 50% raw living food, and we stay on top of our cleanses. As long as you are getting the toxins out so they do not build up in the body, maximize your nutrients, and give your liver, kidneys, and colon a break by eating organic foods that break down easily, you can eat over processed foods from time to time.

So this week I’m going to start Charlie on Colloidal Silver at 1 tbsp every morning. I’m going to stop Biometics except for Cal/Mag only for this week because of it’s high sugar content. Anytime you start a Candida cleanse, you want to limit amount of sugar in your diet which includes your starches such as potatoes and pastas too. He will keep taking his Rhodiola (2 caps- 200mg during the week), Omega-3 (3 caps), Neu-be calm (2 caps on the weekend), and probiotics. We will drink 2 raw food veggie drinks daily made in our Vitamix. Always make sure you throw in a fresh organic garlic clove per person in veggie drink. Fungus/yeast and parasites hate garlic! Plus it’s a natural antibiotic too. Charlie will also start back on Wheat grass for this week (purify the blood). He’ll take his probiotic in the afternoon (Never take a probiotic with a natural antibiotic-colloidal silver). And last he will take 2 clay baths this week.

Chuck and I are going to start a new product called Cell Food this week first before we put Charlie on this product. I always get excited starting new products. I decide to experiment with this product because it’s suppose to enhance the absorption of oxygen and hydrogen directly to our cells. Curious to see how that works out. It sounds like it pretty much accomplishes what Wheat grass already does minus the chlorophyll but I thought we would try it anyway.

Personal Development Programs For ADD/ADHD

When I think about being a parent of a child with ADD/ADHD, the first emotion that comes to my mind is frustration. I would definitely say 5th & 6th grade were our roughest years….and that’s with Charlie on ADHD medication. Let’s see….hmm, from the time Charlie got up in the morning we were constantly yelling, “Hurry up and eat your breakfast!, Why aren’t you ready yet?, Why haven’t you changed out of your pajamas yet?, etc.” When Charlie got to school, he was picked on by other kids in his grade that were all once his childhood best friends because he was always humming during his classes. During PE and lunch, kids called him gay because while his classmates were all interested in girls anatomical parts, Charlie had no interest because of his lack of maturity. In fact if you were to give Charlie a toy army truck he would still play with it. He was always the last to turn in his class work or his tests. Sometimes he wouldn’t even finish his test because he didn’t want other kids to make fun of him for taking too long on every test in each class. After Charlie got home from school, we were always screaming over issues such as, “You have an English test tomorrow and you didn’t bring home your book!, I got e-mailed from your teacher that you got 0 on your homework from last night. We worked on that together, why didn’t you turn it in??” And as always Charlie’s reply was, “I forgot, I don’t know, or just a blank empty stare.” Even dinner was an exhausting task because he was never hungry because of his ADHD medication. We put Charlie in baseball since he showed an interest in this sport but even there he was constantly yelled at from his dad, from his coaches, and from other players because of continuous mistakes due to not paying attention because he was daydreaming. The point I’m trying to make is that it isn’t just hard being a parent with a child that has ADD/ADHD, it can be extremely damaging for their self esteem.

Can you imagine if there wasn’t anything you were good at in your life? Then you add the constant frustration of parents who mean well but only compound the problem. No wonder the majority of these children have the “I don’t care mentality” and the “I don’t care about the consequences attitude.” With parents it’s not so much what you say but more about how you say it. Which leads me into personal development for both the parent and the child. If you do not like the results in your life currently then you will have to become the change first. You will keeping getting the same results in your life if you keep doing what you are doing. I believe it takes 35% proper nutrition & cleanses, 15% exercise, and 50% spiritual development to really have the control over ADD/ADHD. I am absolutely adamant about the importance of proper nutrition but let’s face it, supplements are going to raise your child and help them to WANT to become successful in life.

There are two programs that I recommend for Children’s Personal Development, “Demartini Breaking Through The Myth The Learning Disability Label (1 DVD) and Dr.Demartini’s Lifeskill Toolkit for Kids (3 DVD’s)” http://drjohndemartini.stores.yahoo.net/chpede.html and “Bob Proctors The Winner’s Image.” https://www.shopbobproctor.com/c-6-bobs-best-sellers.aspx. Wouldn’t it be nice to see a different perhaps positive perspective toward your child’s ADD/ADHD. These two programs will get you on the right track. I love love love both of these programs, it’s so hard for me to choose one from the other.

Bob Proctors’ program is INCREDIBLE because it begins at the core helping you understand the power of your mind. At first when you listen to this program it seems like it’s more about “How you can be successful in life and make the money you have always desired.” But in order to do this you must go back to the way your mind was condition when you were growing up. This program’s concept is built on self-esteem and not only is this program important for your child to participate in but you as well. I promise just listening to the first CD will forever change you!!!! This program comes with a work book. I highly suggest that you do exactly what Bob says and not ignore the importance of doing the exercises in this work book. You should do the program first or together with your child.

Dr.Demartini’s Toolkit is something that you should watch once a week. He helps you understand how crucial it is that you find what your child loves to do and link this to school, work, etc… He says everyone has a genius in them…..everyone! Every one of us are really good at something. He shows you through his “Demartini Method” how to awaken this genius. This DVD will make a pivotal difference in both you and your child. Look at this DVD as your first stepping stone in understanding what most public school teachers are not designed to address.

NOTE: Some ADD/ADHD children have put their hyper focus to good use because they have already found their passion such as music, art, sports, etc. And because of this managing their ADD/ADHD doesn’t seem so exhausting but I still recommend even if your child has found what he/she loves and already excels in this area, you should still order these programs. It will only add to their personal development.

How Do I get My Son Who Has ADHD To Eat Vegetables? He Hates Them!

Q: I am having a hard time trying to get my son to eat vegetables. I’ve tried cooking broccoli and topping it with cheese, but he still will not eat them. He doesn’t like to eat vegetables or salads and I’m worn out everyday trying to coax him into eating them. However, he doesn’t fight me to eat fruit if I peel and cut it up for him. Do you have any suggestions to help with my situation? I understand how important it is for ADHD to eat organic vegetables but he simply won’t eat them.

Cindy

A: I’m so excited to get this question! For Christmas I got a Vitamix (Blender/food processor) and Excalibur (Dehydrator). I’m not really a fan of juicers because I believe it’s equally important to not only drink the juice you extract from the juicer but you should eat the pulp(skin) as well. That can be kinda of gross to eat  especially for kids if ya know what I mean. The pulp contains all the fiber and since ADD/ADHD children are too young for colon cleanses, it’s vital that they get the proper amount of fiber in their diet each day. Remember ADD/ADHD DO NOT detoxify well so it’s important that they get fiber each day to help them have regular bowel movement (1-3 times a day)!!!This means they need to EAT fruits and vegetables and not juice them.

The Vitamix is the MOST wonderful durable machine of all time!!!!!!! The blades are so powerful that you can drop fruits, veggies, starches, etc…. and it will completely puree it with no chucks of food. You can make healthy soy fruit ice creams, hot soups (yes, the blades if you run them more than 4 mins will make the soup hot), bread (we now make our own flour b/c of this machine), and not to mention tons of recipes for your dehydrator such as fruit roll ups, energy bars, crackers, etc…. I have talk to customers who have had this machine for over 15 years that still use it everyday. They all rave about how durable it still is, how easy it is to use everyday, and how simple it is to clean. Children will have an easier time drinking these vegetable cocktails rather than eating all of the different types of veggies they need each day. Also keep in mind, fruit should only make up 15% of your diet each day and no more than that!! Fruit is high in sugars. Even though it’s a good sugar (time released) ADD/ADHD already have problems with improper digestion due to food allergies and are highly mineral deficit (magnesium/calcium) causing an overgrowth of yeast. Sugar feeds disease, yeast, fungi, and mold. Your diet must have 60% of veggies each day. You also want color as well, such as bell peppers, onions, spinach, squash, etc….. and not just green veggies. BTW: The darker the greens the better!

The dehydrator cooks food at low temperatures so the enzymes of fruits and veggies are not compromised. So many times veggies are over cooked leaving no vital nutrients left. So basically the broccoli that you cooked for your son didn’t have any nutrients in it once you cooked them. At this point the only purpose to eat the broccoli is for the fiber. And stay away from milk (cheese you put on top of the broccoli), verry bad for ADHD!

I have made Charlie apple, sweet potatoes, zucchini, cucumber, and pineapple chips to take to school and munch on his way to his basketball games. This week I made him every flavor of fruit roll ups you can imagine. I haven’t tried to make the energy bars or boco burgers yet but I’m working on it.

These two machines are pricey but are the Cadillac of their breed and will last you a LIFE TIME. Look at this as an investment that will not only benefit your child but your entire family. Charlie told me the day after I got my Vitamix and Excalibur that he felt that theses were gifts for him. He loves to operate this machine and has made us ice cream everyday. He even makes it for his friends when they come over. He loves it!

Click on the links below.

Vitamix: http://www.vita-mix.com/ Check out all the videos for the Vitamix! This machine is a life savior for ADD/ADHD children and adult!

Excalibur: http://www.excaliburdehydrator.com/ If you desire healthy snacks than a dehydrator is the way to go! If you purchase this product, you should also get “Preserve it Naturally” Third Edition book, the Paraflex sheets (for the fruit roll ups), and the Pre-treatment (Sodium Bifsufite).

Without Deep REM Sleep, No Production of Serotonin…..

Charlie had a basketball game Monday night. He didn’t get home until 8:30 that evening. He had packed enough food for dinner prior his game but when he got home he was still hungry. He fixed a huge plate of pasta, chicken, and then ate a huge chicken wrap afterwards. I wanted to stop him and say, “Charlie you can not eat a big meal before bed because it’s not going to properly digest.” But I decided against this because it would have only made him want to eat even more. The next day when I picked Charlie up from his bus stop, he was sooo fricking cranky. We fought all the way home. At one point I thought I was going to stop my car and throw him out. When we got home we separated and didn’t talk for about 30 mins, then Charlie comes into the kitchen and apologized for being a butt head. He says, “Mom, I don’t know what’s with me today. I’ve been falling asleep in two of my classes and everyone is getting on my nerves. I thought I slept pretty good last night but I feel drained and also I’m in a bad mood.” I asked Charlie, “But did you hit your deep REM sleep last night?” He looked at me funny and said, “No…(sign)… I didn’t….as a matter of fact, I toss and turned all night. I woke up and my sheets were all messy so I know I was tossing all night in my bed. Plus it was really hard to get up this morning too.” I said, “Charlie had you not had such a large meal 30 mins before bed last night you might have slept better. Because you went to bed on a full stomach your food wasn’t able to fully digest. Your body couldn’t relax and slow down your metabolism to reach deep REM sleep because it was too busy trying to break down your meal. And what neurotransmitter is produced during your deep REM?” You could see the light bulb go off in his head as he realized why he was so cranky today. He goes, “Ohhh….That’s when serotonin is produced, your mood neurotransmitter.” I went to our cabinet and gave him 2 NeuBe Calm capsules which have 5HTP (makes serotonin). Charlie learned a great lesson today. I’m actually glad I let him eat that big meal before bed last night. In the past this was just information that he blocked out while I was preaching to him about his ADHD. He knew the importance of deep REM sleep but now he actually understands why he must reach deep REM sleep every night.

FYI: Taking melatonin liquid supplement before bed will also help you reach deep REM sleep.
