Organic Raw Chocolate GREAT For ADD/ADHD

I have found chocolate heaven! I have stumble upon a fricking delicious, simply pure, and completely raw organic snack….. Righteously Raw Organic Chocolate Bars.

This is a Vegan/Kosher bar that is FREE of Gluten and Soy. There are NO refined sugars in this bar!!! Raw Chocolate is a super antioxidant and because this chocolate isn’t roasted, the nutritional elements are not damaged providing an ABUNDANCE of minerals. Chocolate gets a bad rap because of the way it’s processed and it usually contains dairy. Let’s not forget that dairy is a common food allergy for ADD/ADHD and it’s ridicoulsy hard on our digestive system to break down too.

These bars are not only delicious but they are acutally good for you! Righteously Raw flavor Maca Bar (Chocolate) and 90% Cacao Bar (Goji) have ONLY 4g sugar per servings (each bar has 3 servings). 80% Cacao Bar (Acai) has 5g sugar and 90% Cacao Bar (Caramel) has 6g sugar. How fricking amazing is that???? It’s very hard to find a snack or energy bar out there today that doesn’t have a high sugar content and still taste good. Sugar is one of the major culprits in compounding ADD/ADHD issues. I eat one entire bar every other day or every 2 days. I like to break them up into their serving size and nibble on them thorough out the day.  Righteously Raw bars are sweetened with Golden Hunza Raisins and Bahri dates (lowest glycemic index than any other date). Your taste buds will not even notice the low sugar content. The raisins and dates pack just enough sweetness. Since ADD/ADHD are usually low in their neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, raw Chocolate will benefit them because it stimulates their endorphins to produce these “feel good” neurotransmitters WITHOUT compromising their health. Plus these Organic bars are made in a nut free facility! Great news since majority ADD/ADHD have food allergies.

These are pricey bars they usually run you around $5.95 per bar on the net and over $6.99 in health food stores but they are well WORTH IT!! I order my bars from this site: http://www.coolrawfood.com/webstore/product.php?productid=16918&cat=352&bestseller=Y . You get 3 flavors (Chocolate, Goji, & Caramel) for $14.18.

Organic Popcorn For Movie Night

We LOVE popcorn especially “movie popcorn.” Is that stuff the best??? However, I’m sure I do not need to get into how horrible this stuff is on your body’s filters (colon, liver, blood, etc). It’s definitely stuff that clogs you up not to mention it’s doused with MSG (which excites your neurotransmitters to death -verry bad for ADD/ADHD). So’s here a healthier alternative the next time it’s a movie rental night. With your popcorn machine maker you will still follow the exact same directions BUT you will substitute with organic ingredients:

Organic popcorn kernels

3/4 Cold Pressed Organic Coconut Oil

1/4 100% Expeller Pressed Organic Avocado Oil

1 tsp Sea salt

1 tbsp Walker & Sons “Slap Ya Mamma” (Cajun seasoning)

I’ve tried using only coconut oil but it made the popcorn way too soggy. I don’t know what your directions say as for how much oil to use so divided it up into the ratio of 3/4 coconut oil and 1/4 avocado oil cause it makes the popcorn taste just right 🙂. Experiment with a different ratio of these two oils until you find what taste best for you. Charlie’s friends love my popcorn!! I love it when they say, “I can’t believe organic food can taste this good.” They are always asking me to make this when they spend the night. Or they will ask Charlie to bring popcorn to school with him. When I ask Charlie to describe the taste he says it’s “In between crunchy and slightly soggy but perfectly salted and buttery. And the chocolate just pulls it all together.”

I will usually sprinkle the sea salt and the Cajun seasoning over the popcorn while it’s turning in the oil. Once it’s finish popping, I will sometimes pour a small amount of melted Smart butter over it, then sprinkle more Cajun seasoning, and sprinkle in some Sunspire Semi-sweet Organic Chocolate Chips.

P.S I do not suggest putting chocolate in all the time (2 tbsp is 8g sugar) or the Smart Butter. This is a treat and should not be abused or you will continue to have yeast problems. Also this not something you need to eat when doing a yeast/fungus cleanse either. Even though making popcorn with coconut oil helps keep the yeast control down, you should omit all yeast food (corn) during a cleanse for optimum results.

What Are Healthy Snacks For ADD/ADHD Who Have Yeast Overgrowth?

Q: Since you always say that yeast overgrowth is common with ADD/ADHD, I talk to my DR and she is going put my son on a fungal cleanse. Right now she has him taking some antifungal product and probiotics that she has recommended. I was wondering what are some healthy snacks you send to school with your son? I find that cutting sugar out of my son’s diet is impossible! But I’m trying :).

Lizza

A: You only have to cut sugar out when you are doing a yeast/fungus cleanse for about 3-4 weeks. The point of the cleanse is to kill the yeast/fungus by starving them from their unusual supply of food (sugar, refined carbs, processed and junk food). Yeast overgrowth is so common with ADD/ADHD. It is also one of the #1 mimickers of ADD/ADHD.  Many adults and children find that after a yeast/fungal cleanse they no longer have mood issues and problems with memory or concentration. Food allergies, heavy metal toxicity, poor diet, over use of antibiotics or prescription meds (ADD/ADHD meds, steroids, birth control, antacids, etc) all contribute to yeast domination. Charlie seems to have a sensitivity to sugar. Even after a cleanse if he eats high amounts of sugar (especially refined sugars) it doesn’t take much for the fungus to proliferate again. Because of this it definitely makes searching for healthy snacks extremely difficult. His Biometics AM drink already has over 50g of sugar in it. Even though it’s a healthy sugar that is time released through out the day, starting the day out at that high of a number makes me have to work extra hard at finding snacks that are low in GOOD sugars. You are always going to have yeast in your body. But the ratio should be 15% yeast and 85% good flora. As long as I can keep the good sugars down to less than 100g a day, the balance of good flora in his gut is maintained at that ratio. But also keep in mind, he will take a probiotic first thing in the morning with his Biometics AM drink which ensures that the good bacteria flourishes and is established early on in the day. Next we always cook with extra virgin cold pressed organic coconut oil, which yeast and bad bacteria absolutely hate. And last, we juice in our vitamix one veggie drink after school that has one organic clove (we always select a nice big clove, not a skimpy one) per person in it….which fungus and parasites totally hates! Garlic is a natural antibiotic. I believe the correct saying is “A garlic clove and probiotic a day, will keep the doctor away!” Plus cheating on bad foods and dessert once on the weekend doesn’t affect the balance of Charlie’s natural flora because we have establish a healthy routine all week that allows his good bacteria to thrive. Depending how bad we cheat when we go out to eat, Charlie will sit in our infrared sauna or take a clay bath the next day. But we ALWAYS take a digestive enzyme when we eat out.

My two favorite places to shop on line are www.vitacost.com and www.VitaminShoppe.com. However Vitacost does seem to have the better savings but there are certain products that I can not buy on vitacost that I can only get at vitamin shoppe. I’m always on the prowl for healthy snacks. I bought a dehydrator but can’t seem to master the protein bar recipes. I think I need to take some kind of class or something. A dehydrator will allow you to make the BEST snacks such as your own organic trail mixes, flax crackers, and even veggie burgers. For some freaking reason I can’t seem to get pass the recipes for fruit roll ups and dehydrated fruits, which are all way to high in sugar for Charlie to eat everyday.

Favorite Health Bar

1. Organic Hempseed Bar (5g Sugar 9g Protein and 5g Fiber)

This is if I may say, a bad ass little bar. Low in good sugars but still high is protein (stabilize blood sugar) and fiber (binds to toxins & keep you regular) as well which are both important for ADD/ADHD. Forget about the fat content. The fats in this bar are the good fats. It contains a perfect balance of omega-3, omega 6, and GLA. Ingredients for this bar are: sunflower seeds, honey, shelled hempseeds, flax seeds, and pumpkin seeds. How simple is that?? A light bar that is o so good for you. Charlie takes one bar with him for lunch everyday. A box of 24 will run around $33.74 at vitaminshoppe. Nutiva donates 1% of all sales to exemplary organizations that support and promote sustainable agriculture. So far they have donated over $30,000. It was also one of the first food companies to place Non-GMO (Genetically Modified) symbol on their labels.

** KIND Healthy Snacks

This health bar is our “cheat bars.” They are not bars that we would eat daily. These are handmade bars made with all natural ingredients and premium nuts (almonds, Brazilian nuts, etc) that are all naturally dried and held together with honey. These bars are just so yummy without compromising your health. These bars are made by Peace Works which is a non profit company who seeks to foster peace through business. Our favorite bars are Kind Bar Sesame & Peanuts with Chocolate (15g Sugar, 6g Protein, and 15g Fat) and  Kind Fruit Nut Bars Almond & Coconut (11g Sugar, 4g Protein, and 14g Fat). These bars are a bit heavy but sill a good all natural product that supports a good cause. When Charlie takes these bars with him other kids are always begging him for a bite. They are delicious! A box of 8 will cost $14.99 at VitaminShoppe.

Organic Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread For ADD/ADHD

This recipe was a HUGE hit at Charlie’s Christmas party. NOBODY could believe that this yummy tasting bread was actually good for you. Neither my husband or son are fans of anything pumpkin. But the combination of the semi chocolate chip and pumpkin is absolutely delicious! Plus is so simple and quick to whoop up in your kitchen.

3 1/3 cup of Organic Whole Grain Wheat or Organic Unbleached White Flour

3 tsp of Stevia Extract Powder

4 tsp Organic pumpkin pie spice

2 tsp Organic Bob’s Red Mill (Aluminum Free) Baking Soda

1 tsp Sea salt

1/2 tsp of Rumford (Aluminum Free) Baking Powder

4 Large Organic Eggs

1 can (15oz) Organic solid pack pumpkin

2/3 cups of Distilled Water

2/3 cup of Organic Safflower Oil

2 cups of All Natural Vegan Carob Semi Chocolate Chips (Sunsprie)

1 cup of Organic Pecans or Walnuts or Almonds

In a large bowl, combine the first six ingredients. In another bowl, combine the egss, pumpkin, water and oil; stir into dry ingredients just until mositened. Stir in  chocolate chips and nuts. Pour into two greased 9in x 5in loaf pans. Bake @ 350 and check with a toothpick after 10-15 mins and every minutes afterwards.

I used Arrowhead Mills Whole Grain Wheat Seeds which I grinded in my Vitamix. At first I was a bit nervous using the seeds b/c I wasn’t sure how heavy the loaf would be making it wheat. So my first time making this recipe I used 2 cups of Organic Unbleached White Flour and 1 1/3 of Organic Whole Grain Seeds that I grined.into fresh flour.  Both times the recipe was total success so it’s your choice.

Great Organic Snacks for ADD/ADHD

Just because the snacks listed below are organic doesn’t mean you want to give this to your child everyday. I highly recommend pulling all sugar from your child’s diet for about a month. Afterwards you can introduce some of the snacks below. To completely cut out any treats or snacks creates lack and you are setting your child up to turn into a sugar junkie when he/she is around sweets or junk food. When you tell kids or even adults that they can’t have something, all it does is make them want it more. So what you really want to do is create abundance and excitement. Take your child to the health food store the next time you go. This is a great time to educate them in a fun setting. When children are included in the kitchen, this will encourage them to want to learn. When your trying to teach your children the importance of nutrition, it has to be short and to the point. Don’t start lecturing them or they will totally block you out. Show them how to identify the ingredients on the back of the label that are harmful to them. When we go to the grocery store together, Charlie reads every label before he puts his snacks or meals in the buggy. He helps me pick out what’s we’re going to cook for dinner during the week. When Charlie had his break down with sugar about 1 1/2 weeks ago, I realized that we had stopped cooking snacks together as a family. I’ve been so busy that I stopped taking him with me to pick out snacks or meals that he wanted to pack for lunch during the week. When Charlie participates with cooking and grocery shopping, he’s want to eat healthier. It keeps his mind sharp. But when I do all the decision making for his meals, it makes him bored and he gets away from wanting to be healthy again. Once a week you as a family should make organic bread, or a cake, or cookies, or brownies together. Again this is a great time to take a brief moment to educate children about nutrition. Now you will have a child that WANTS to eat healthy snacks and meals and not a child that is being forced. Since letting Charlie participate in selecting some of his healthy meals for the week, he’s back to being excited about eating healthy food again. He’s been telling his cross country team how tasty organic food can be versus all the trans, hydrogenated, and sugary junk food out there today. So he asked me if I would make his team some organic brownies and cookies. He was soooo excited when his team were fighting over these snacks. He was telling his coach how I put walnuts in it which is high in omegas and how I make it with coconut oil which is really good for you when your an athlete because it’s a good fat. The kids on his team asked him if they could come live with us so they could eat healthy meals and snacks like this everyday.

*My favorite fast and all natural easy bake Organic Cake, Brownie, and Chocolate Chip Cookies mixes are from Pamela’s Products. I get this at Winn Dixie but it’s sold in health food stores too. All of Pamela’s pre-mix batters are Wheat-Free, Gluten Free, and Non Dairy. These cookies and brownies are just fricking fabulous. I ALWAYS use coconut oil and Smart Butter. Even when her cookies call for 8 tbsp of Butter, I’ll put 4 tbsp organic coconut oil and 4 tbsp of Smart Butter. I’ll also like to add walnuts or almonds in these cookies too. Charlie just LOVES them. He asked me if I would make his cross country team organic brownies and chocolate chip cookies. It’s so cute, the coach tells all the time how he goes on and on about how regular cookies spike your glucose level, suppress the immune system, blah blah and if she tried these organic cookies she wouldn’t even touch regular cookies again.

*My favorite ice creams are:

1.Soy Dream (made from organic soybeans) Chocolate Fudge Brownie (Publix) *This product is so delicious that Charlie’s friends, my husband’s clients, and my friends can not believe it’s not ice cream.

4.Chocolate Tofutti Premium
