Purchasing organically grown produce is the ideal first step in gaining control of ADD/ADHD, however I do understand that for some of us it can become too costly for our budget. So knowing how to discriminate between the least amount of chemcials for certain produce needs to become an important part of your eating habits. I have updated this year’s Environmental Working Group’s latest 2010 list of the “Dirty Dozen:
While carrots, pears, and lettuce are no longer included on the list, unfortunately, spinach, blueberries, and potatoes have taken their place.
Dirty Dozen(Always and I mean always try to buy these produce organic)
Celery Peaches
Strawberries
Apples
Blueberries
Nectarines
Bell Peppers
Spinach
Kale
Cherries
Potatoes
Grapes (Imported)
Equally helpful when shopping is to know which fruits and vegetables have the least amount of pesticide residues, so when organic varieties of the “Dirty Dozen” are unavailable, you can choose these as great alternatives: (To Clean chemicals off of these produces, soaking them in GSE Grapefruit seed extract- follow directions from GSE website)
Onions
Avocado
Sweet Corn
Pineapple
Mangos
Sweet Peas
Asparagus
Kiwi
Cabbage
Eggplant
Cantaloupe
Watermelon
Grapefruit
Sweet Potato
Honeydew Melon
Enthusiastically yours,
Shirley Highers
When the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, it may be that they are taking better care of it.

Even if I wash the dirty dozen with a fruit wash and or peel them am I still eating pesticides that are inside the fruit or vegetable?
Comment by elena turman May 23, 2010 @ 11:27 pmPeeling fruits and veggies that can be peeled will aid in removing some of the pesticides. However, only loosely bound surface pesticides can be removed this way. The pesticide residue contained inside the vegetable cell cannot be removed this way. Also you will lose valuable nutrients and insoluble fiber that are only found in and under the skin. Do what you can with what you can afford. I know organic can get pricey but in my opinion, diet is everything in gaining control of this disorder. Keep in mind that ADD/ADHD is a neurological disorder. And pesticides and insecticides are neurotoxins. These toxins can aggravate and make their ADD/ADHD symptoms worse. So try to spurge on the organic produce when you can.
