Without Deep REM Sleep, No Production of Serotonin…..

Charlie had a basketball game Monday night. He didn’t get home until 8:30 that evening. He had packed enough food for dinner prior his game but when he got home he was still hungry. He fixed a huge plate of pasta, chicken, and then ate a huge chicken wrap afterwards. I wanted to stop him and say, “Charlie you can not eat a big meal before bed because it’s not going to properly digest.” But I decided against this because it would have only made him want to eat even more. The next day when I picked Charlie up from his bus stop, he was sooo fricking cranky. We fought all the way home. At one point I thought I was going to stop my car and throw him out. When we got home we separated and didn’t talk for about 30 mins, then Charlie comes into the kitchen and apologized for being a butt head. He says, “Mom, I don’t know what’s with me today. I’ve been falling asleep in two of my classes and everyone is getting on my nerves. I thought I slept pretty good last night but I feel drained and also I’m in a bad mood.” I asked Charlie, “But did you hit your deep REM sleep last night?” He looked at me funny and said, “No…(sign)… I didn’t….as a matter of fact, I toss and turned all night. I woke up and my sheets were all messy so I know I was tossing all night in my bed. Plus it was really hard to get up this morning too.” I said, “Charlie had you not had such a large meal 30 mins before bed last night you might have slept better. Because you went to bed on a full stomach your food wasn’t able to fully digest. Your body couldn’t relax and slow down your metabolism to reach deep REM sleep because it was too busy trying to break down your meal. And what neurotransmitter is produced during your deep REM?” You could see the light bulb go off in his head as he realized why he was so cranky today. He goes, “Ohhh….That’s when serotonin is produced, your mood neurotransmitter.” I went to our cabinet and gave him 2 NeuBe Calm capsules which have 5HTP (makes serotonin). Charlie learned a great lesson today. I’m actually glad I let him eat that big meal before bed last night. In the past this was just information that he blocked out while I was preaching to him about his ADHD. He knew the importance of deep REM sleep but now he actually understands why he must reach deep REM sleep every night.

FYI: Taking melatonin liquid supplement before bed will also help you reach deep REM sleep.

Car Accident Statistics for ADHD Teenagers

Are you ready to freak out??? ADHD teenagers have 4 times as many traffic citations versus non-ADD/ADHD drivers. They have 4 times as many car accidents and if that isn’t enough to alarm ADD/ADHD parents they are 7 times more likely to have a second accident!!! Charlie turns 15 years old tomorrow. We are checking out of his last class for the day so he can go take his driver’s permit test. Last week he asked me when he passed his test if he could drive home on the highway. I told him I still wanted him to practice on the back roads a bit longer. His remark to me, “Mom, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out how to drive.” I just started screaming at him as if he just had a wreak. I was totally out of line but I couldn’t make myself stop. I get soooo worried just thinking of him driving and to hear him make comments like that shows me that he doesn’t even take driving seriously. I mean with that kind of attitude I can totally picture him messing around with the CD player, or trying to eat, or texting while he’s driving. Can you believe that he was crazy enough to say to me that “Other kids talk on the phone when they drive … you just need to chill out.” O good heavens we’ve got one year to get him focused, responsible, and help him tap into his common sense before he will be driving by himself.

One thing my husband has helped me understand with Charlie is that I have to stop doing everything for him because it’s easier or faster. For years because Charlie was sooo spacey and just didn’t care about anything, I would do all of the thinking for him. I made Charlie needy and lazy. My husband said to me about a year ago, “Let him make mistakes so he can learn from them. Quit telling him the right answers in life, instead you should help him figure it out for himself.” So I really took it to heart and I began to pull back from consistently hovering over him. We set boundaries/limits and most importantly we followed through with the consequences. When Charlie got angry about his discipline my husband would always make him explain to him how he could have avoided his punishment….always making him think. About a month ago, I was like, “Okay, Charlie’s about to turn 15 years old, we need to go get his material for his permit so he can start studying, we need to… and we need to….” My husband laughed and said, “We’re not getting nothing. If Charlie wants to drive he will make the effort to obtain and learn this material.” I said, “Chuck we are talking about Charlie here. He hasn’t even asked me to go get his pamphlet. He’s not taking this seriously and we have to make sure that Charlie is prepared! If we don’t make him study for his test he won’t pass it!” My husband said in a sharp tone, “Then he doesn’t pass it! I don’t care if he has to take that test 5 times before he gets his permit. If he wants this than he will have to prove to us that he is ready to drive.” Thank goodness my husband is the anchor here because last week Charlie finally got all of his studying material, took the alcohol and tobacco test on line, and has been studying all on his own. I sure do wish he wouldn’t have waited till the last week to prepare for his test but I guess it’s Charlie’s lesson to learn.

Could Diarrhea Be Connected To Biometics Supplements?

Q: I enjoyed your e-book. I started my daughter and 2 granddaughters (6 & 3) on Biometics.  The girls have improved greatly–My daughter, Niki who is 28 has been having diarrhea, vomiting off and on for the past few days. I initially felt this would be a great product for her, because she has long hours, doesn’t eat right, trying to lose weight, etc. etc.  She is taking the product at full strength. –Could this be connected to the Biometrics?

Cheryl

A:

I believe it could be 3 things: 1. your daughter is going through detox  2. she has gone up to a full serving size on her supplements too quickly  3. she has an imbalance of good bacteria in her gut. Unlike adults children do not usually go through detox unless they are on a lot of medications or do not drink water daily. Adults really put their bodies through the ringer. They are so toxic. Their bodies have years of stored toxins and abuse. What she should have done was stay at a half serving for about one week before going up to a full strength. I would drop everything down to 1/2 tbsp for right now as well. Makes sure she drinks plenty of water (half her body weight in ozs to be exact). What happen here is when she started taking the products because of it’s high concentration (85%-100% absorption) of nutrients her body began releasing and dumping toxins into her body. Her liver and kidneys were not able to dispel them quick enough resulting in her feeling crappy. Here are the some signs of detox:

SYMPTOMS OF DETOX AND DETOXIFICATION:

Some of the symptoms of detoxification include a feeling of dizziness, diarrhea, lack of appetite, tiredness and fatigue, general malaise, nausea, vomiting, headache, increased body odor, hives, rashes, or mild skin outbreaks, the presence of allergies or a worsening of allergies, and/or a possible worsening of initial symptoms before they improve. When cleansing the internal organs, blood, and lymph, some detoxification symptoms are normal and expected.

You may have to stop Get-Go-N or Cal/Mag or both for a couple of days. Right now her tummy may be so sensitive that anything is setting off her diarrhea. Or you can cut back on her Get-Go-N or Cal/Mag. I’m not sure which one is the culprit.  If it is Cal/Mag, then I have a few questions for you:

a. Is she drinking this after dinner on a FULL stomach?

b. Do you make sure that the PM drink stops fizzing before she drinks it?

c. Make sure she drinks Cal/Mag slowly if she has a sensitivity to this product. Eventually she may be able to drink it fast and on an empty stomach but if she is sensitive to this product you really want to take your time easing in to it. Unlike the AM drink which you should drink fast, this drink you can take your time to drink. You can sip on it for about 15 mins. Just make sure you continue to stir it so the calcium doesn’t stick to the bottom of the cup. Yep that’s the white stuff at the bottom of the cup, you gotta make sure you get all of that.

d. Cut back on the serving size and ease your way back up to a full serving size. For example: Give her 1/4 scoop after dinner. If everything is fine for a few days then go up to 1/2 scoop. If everything is fine in 3-4 days than go up to 1 scoop, etc…. If it’s the Get-go-n than do the exact same thing; cut back to 1 scoop and if everything is good for 3-4 days, increase until you are up to full serving size.

And last ishe on Probiotics? It’s in my personal experience children or adults that get diarrhea easily usually have an imbalance of good bacteria in their gut. By taking Probiotics this will restore the natural flora in her gut again and also also help her build up to a full serving size with Biometics even faster. She can take this with her AM drink on an empty stomach in the morning.

Use Tongue Diagnosis For Guidance With ADD/ADHD

We’ve always been big fans of traditional Chinese medicine. The one thing I took away from that experience was tongue diagnosis. Did you know that your tongue is literally a blue print of all of your organs? We do not do Chinese herbs anymore but we still do acupuncture. Chinese herbs and acupuncture is about the “chi” or “Qi” or basically the flow of energy and the balance of your body’s proper temperature that are used to heal your body. Instead of giving your body drugs, Chinese medicine tries to stimulate your body so it will regain the power to produce what is lacking or at least get it back on track. Anyway, we loved going down this holistic path but like I mention in my other Blog it wasn’t enough to get Charlie off is ADD/ADHD medication. However, my husband and I achieved incredible health results while we were participating with Charlie for this particular natural remedy. Anyway, I have become obsessed with diagnosing our tongues. If you go to this website and answer the questions it will give you an idea of tongue diagnose: http://beyondwellbeing.com/herbs/tongue-diagnosis.shtml This site is one of the few sites I have found on the web today that simply explains tongue diagnosis and even has pictures so you will be able to compare your tongue. It’s not quite as detail as my books but it’ll give you a general idea. Our tongues never lie unless you eat colored candy or brush your tongueA healthy tongue (which means healthy body) NEVER needs to be scraped or brushed in the morning. So check it out. I have like 2 books on tongue diagnose. I’m no master but once you have some kind of an idea for tongue diagnosis, you will always use it for guidance on your journey of natural remedies with ADD/ADHD. It’s mind blowing what an expert in Tongue Diagnosis will be able to tell you just from looking at your tongue. AMAZING, I tell you!!! I would go to my appointments with Charlie and after seconds of looking at my tongue, my therapist would be like, “Your cycle came early this month, huh?” or “Lay off the bad food, your liver is stagnate.” or “You’ve been getting headaches, huh?” or “Your candida is out of control.” The first time my husband went in for his appointment, he was told that he had poor circulation and kidneys. I was just so amazed by him. BUT you must make sure you find an expert that is licensed in this field. Trust me, it does make a difference.
